Follow-up of the ESO/EFNR Rehabilitation Course Series

The ESO/EFNR Rehabilitation Course Series took place in Warsaw, Poland, on 12–13 June 2025, bringing together clinicians, researchers and trainees from across Europe. Organized by the European Federation of NeuroRehabilitation Societies (EFNR) in collaboration with the European Stroke Organization (ESO), the event focused on advancing stroke and neurorehabilitation practice in line with the objectives of the  Stroke Action Plan for Europe (SAP-E).

Day 1 at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology focused on motor recovery after stroke and cognitive rehabilitation.

  • Prof. Peter Lackner and Mrs Magdalena Fried (Austria) led the motor recovery module, addressing neurophysiology, early mobilization, physiotherapy techniques, and rehabilitation planning.
  • Dr. Sigrid Schwarz (Austria) guided the cognition and telerehabilitation module, highlighting assessment tools and digital approaches to rehabilitation.

Day 2 at the Military Institute of Medicine centered on aphasia and dysphagia.

  • Prof. Paola Marangolo (Italy) presented strategies for aphasia diagnosis and therapy, supported by case-based video examples.
  • Prof. Stefanie Duchac (Germany) led the dysphagia session, focusing on diagnostics, evidence-based interventions, and clinical reasoning.
  • The program concluded with group work, where participants developed practical strategies to implement rehabilitation tools in their home countries.

The Warsaw course combined expert lectures, interactive case studies, and hands-on workshops, providing participants with evidence-based knowledge and practical toolboxes for clinical practice. The event demonstrated the strong collaboration between EFNR and ESO in supporting education, building clinical capacity and improving outcomes for stroke and neurorehabilitation patients across Europe.
