Austrian Vietnamese Advancement Neurorehabilitation Treatment

The successor program AVANT (Austrian Vietnamese Advancement Neurorehabilitation Treatment) is a unique training program between Vietnam and Austria that standardizes neurorehabilitation practice. It’s designed for both doctors and therapists, with practical hospital applications. It also supports caregivers, bringing high-quality neurorehabilitation from hospitals to the wider community.

As part of the AVANT II program, Vietnam has successfully completed a large-scale nationwide Access to Care Survey on post-stroke rehabilitation.

A total of 1.004 valid responses were collected from a wide range of stakeholders across the country.

The survey provides valuable baseline data across Vietnam:

  • Access to early rehabilitation services
  • Screening practices for dysphagia, aphasia and cognitive impairment
  • Home-based and tele-rehabilitation availability
  • Post-discharge support structures

This evidence will be instrumental in identifying current treatment gaps, setting measurable AVANT II objectives in alignment with the Stroke Action Plan for Europe 2030, and guiding future national strategies on multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation.

We are grateful for the active collaboration of over 1,000 respondents and the ongoing support from the Ministry of Health and national rehabilitation leaders.
